San Sebastián's festival calendar is the most concentrated in the Basque Country — from the Tamborrada (January 20, when the entire city drums for 24 hours to celebrate the patron saint) through the International Film Festival (September, one of Europe's most prestigious) to the Semana Grande (August's Big Week of fireworks, concerts, and revelry). The summer festivals transform the waterfront into an open-air celebration that runs virtually non-stop from July through September.
